Quotes: Campbell, Nobel, Consteau

“That's a difficult one. Scientists are asked to referee a lot of papers and to a certain extent we have to believe each other as to the validity of the data.” - Keith Campbell

"If I have a thousand ideas and one turns out to be good, i am satisfied" - Alfred Bernhard Nobel

"From birth man carries the weight of gravity on his shoulders. He is bolted to the earth. But man has only to sink beneath the surface and he is free" - Jacques Yves Cousteau

Final Design

Sections of the two spaces show the relationship between Tracey Moffat's (upper ground) work space to Rosalie Gascoigne (below ground). The location of Tracey Moffat's workspace above ground with the inclusion of various skylights provides extensive lighting for her photography and wide open space allows for the construction of sets for her work. In contrast Rosalie Gascoigne is located below the datum where the enclosed and nurturing space provides an intimate environment for modelling and assembling of artworks.
Visible from the first section are the three textures used within the structure, 'Organized' is used as an accent for the mostly flat ceiling where the repetitive patterning creates the feel of a tiled star lined ceiling. 'Opaque' is used on the foundations of the structure where the alteration of the contrast of the texture allows it to create a pattern identical to brick work. Lastly 'Solid' is used to coat the entire structure where the granular and monochromatic color is very similar to the properties of concrete, this lack of color also provides an ideal backdrop for the displaying of artwork where Tracey's photography and Rosalie's sculptures will stand out from the building itself.
When comparing the final model to the initial rough model of the structure you can see how the general shape and dimensions of the building, both above and below datum are quite similar, though slight modifications such as the lowering of the base level further downwards allowing for a longer and more undulating floor/wall/ramp leading to the lower level, which further depicts the initial sketches of 'rolling'.
In addition to the alteration of the lower floor balustrades have been constructed as safety precaution for the upper staircase where the use of glass does not take away from the duel feeling of heaviness and weightlessness on either side of the stair. The extensive use of glass also creates an open environment where the development/creation of artwork to the exhibition is on display.

This image shows that from a single perspective all three levels of the structure can be viewed clearly, from the stepping levels of above ground to the rolling wall/floor of below.

Textures used in model; Organized, Opaque, Solid.
